I have another awesome #OrlandoMade experience to share with you! Last Friday Jack and I attended an awesome Yelp Event at Lure Paper Goods, downtown Orlando.
We not only learned the process of screen printing, got to see the pro’s at work, but also got to screen print our own poster! Lure Paper Goods creates and sells posters, notecards and journals, all hand-pulled and screen printed in house.
Prior to coming to Lure, I had no clue what went into screen printing. We got to see how to burn a screen which you then coat with ink and use for printing and each color ink gets its own screen. The process of burning the screen was similar to developing an old time photograph – the screens are kept in a dark room until they are ready to be burned. After 4 minutes of processing in the light box, the screen is ready to be washed and the image appears!

The screen is then set upside down to dry and then you are ready to print! We all had the opportunity to ‘Slinging Ink’ as they call it at Lure! Let me tell you, this was not as easy as it looks! It takes quite a bit of strength to have the right amount of pressure to coat the poster completely in ink the first go-round. After successfully printing the poster – they are placed on a drying rack! After all of our efforts creating these fun “Good Things Come To Those Who Hustle” Yelp exclusive posters, we enjoyed some delicious food and drinks!
The nights Menu included:
-Squash Blossom and Charred Corn Quesadillas with Avocado puree and pico de gallo
-Watermelon gazpacho topped with basil feta, pickled watermelon and toasted hazelnuts
-Open face banh mi with Vietnamese chicken salad, topped with pickeld daikon, carrot, and cucumber;
-and Gingerberry Kombucha!
I may or may not have had a second helping of the delicious Quesadilla! Everything I sampled was delicious and I am excited to learn more about the Kombucha; which is said to be great for your immune system, and gut!
I love learning new things and exploring where I live! A HUGE thank you to Yelp, Lure, Farm-Haus and Kombucha for putting on such a great event!
I was lucky enough this past Tuesday to take part in Yelp Orlando’s #ORLANDOMADE series! Each month for 2015 yelp is giving a select few an inside look behind the scenes in local kitchens, headquarters and production facilities all over the city. Celebrating all things Orlando! I RSVP’d to the March event that took place at Lineage Roasting Coffee, located in the East End Market.
I got to meet Ms. Andi, the wonderful Yelp Orlando rep for the first time, and the awesome owners of Lineage, Ryan and Jarrett. I had the pleasure of partaking in my first ‘cupping party’, sampling some out of this world brew, and learn much about the coffee its self! Ryan + Jarrett really know their stuff, you can tell how passionate they are about what they do.
We want to tell great stories with our coffee. We want to tell the story of the farmers that grew it by roasting in a way that highlights the subtleties and nuances of each origin, region, and microlot. We’re strategic in our sourcing practices to source only the truly exceptional coffees from people that we can put our dollar behind.
We want to tell the story of our roaster- the experimentation, attention to detail, meticulous adjustments until each and every roast reveals the distinct character of the bean; never to cover up imperfections. Each batch is cupped and inspected for quality before it ever reaches our café or is bagged and sent to you.
Finally, we want to be a part of your story. Whether it’s a barista crafting you a drink with patience, skill, and artisanship in our café or it’s the package of beans you take home, we want to be a part of it. Coffee brings people together. Coffee facilitates creativity, connection, and comfort. With us, you don’t just get an amazing cup of coffee- you get to sip, pause, and drink it all in. There are moments in life that are worth slowing down and savoring. And we want to be right there with you.
Prior to my visit this week, I had never been to the East End Market, or Lineage and suspect that I will soon be a regular! I had an great time and cant wait to go back!
